Maria Jongsma, in memoriam
In no time had Maria een specifieke aanpak voor Same ontwikkeld en was Yep Same geboren.
Maria is diverse keren in Same geweest. Nooit uitsluitend voor Yep Same. We gaan Maria erg missen.

EULOGY FOR THE PASSING AWAY OF MARIA JONGSMA by dr.Norbert Mchomvu, project leader Mater Dei Africa, counterpart of Stipulae
Dear Family members of the late Maria, Friends and colleagues who have been so painfully touched by the passing away of Maria. I join you during this time of mourning of our friend who has left us to join the Creator. Maria is no longer with us but she will remain cherished by many not only in the Netherlands but also beyond the borders of this country. Maria touched the lives of so many people especially in Tanzania. Last week and this week I visited Maasai elders, men and women and informed them about her departure. The message was received with tremendous shock and silence which was very obvious in the eyes of these people in the rural Tanzania. I was not sure they understood or believed what I had said. I had to say it once again that Maria was no longer with us, she as departed. I met groups of Youths, Government and Church leaders in Same town Tanzania and the message was received with grief and sorrow. They asked me questions as if what I told them was not true. I told them “Yes. it has happened, she was ill but nobody expected her departure could happen that soon”. Maria believed in helping the underprivileged, women and the youth she worked so hard to improve their social economic status in the Tanzanian community. She was convinced that responsible self-reliant youths would lead to responsible adults and a better world to live in. She started a very successful Youth Entrepreneurship project in Same Tanzania. She started a fund to support education of girls from poor Maasai families.
Dear Friends, Maria dedicated her life to bring Joy and light to people who lost hope. She had many dreams. Towards the end of her life Maria wrote me these words “The final stage of my life has started, but I look back very happily. Thanks for your Friendship”. Yes indeed, her happiness was due to what she accomplished in life not for herself but for others. My appeal to us all, you and me is to cherish Maria by following her steps doing what she asked us to do for the benefit of the people in need, in The Netherlands and beyond.
MAY HER SOUL REST IN ETERNAL PEACE – AMEN
